The Ancieties Collection- “All of Me”
This piece is based off of the emotions of motherhood. When I chose the theme for my collection I was hesitant to touch on motherhood, because it is a very complex subject. When I think about becoming a mother I feel a deep and quiet ache, it’s not just because of fear but also the awareness of the inevitable change it brings. I love my life as it is now, the calm, the freedom, the ability to disappear into my art, and I grieve the thought of losing touch with these things as they are cornerstones of my identity. But along side the fear is something gentler, curiosity, a longing for personal growth and a sense of purpose that has been passed down from every mother before me. When designing this, I wanted to capture these conflicting emotions, the sacrifice a mother goes through, the ripping apart of one’s body and the growth of our world and minds. Notice, I chose a similar brown for the stem of the main flower as I did the deer. It moves through the deers belly to signify that it’s her bloodline, I felt this was risky for the readability of the piece but an important aspect to the intention of my design.
